We have lots of pets. We have three dogs, two ferrets, a lizard, a frog, and a snake. My favorite animals are reptiles and frogs. We have frogs in our pond. THE SLOTH By M.E. Appearance: What is a Sloth? A Sloth is a slow gray or brown haired mammal. Sometimes they have a greenish tint in their coat because they live in the rain forest and they go so slow that they build up algae in there coats. The Sloth can grow to a length of one and a half to two and a half feet in about two and a half years. Food: What does a Sloth eat? A Sloth likes to eat lots of things. Like leaves and buds. The two- toed Sloth also eats twigs, fruits, and small prey. The Sloth does not drink they get water from eating juicy leaves and licking dewdrops. Habitat: Where do Sloths live? Sloths live in wet moist rain forests of central and South America. Defense and Enemies: How does a Sloth defend its self? A Sloth defends its self by using its sharp claws, but their main form of protection is their camouflage. The Sloths enemies are mostly snakes and birds. They also have enemies on the ground like jaguars and ocelots. Family: What about Sloth families? Sloth moms have babies just like other mammals. Sloth babies are about 10 inches long and weight about 12oz. They stay with their moms for 6 to 9 months then they leave and go to there own tree. What do they Upside Down? What do Sloths do? Sloths hang upside down most of their life. They eat, sleep (an average of 15 hours a day), mate, and give birth. Other cool fun facts: What else? There are lots of stuff about Sloths but I can’t tell you every thing so hear are some more cool facts! Since Sloths hang upside down a lot there organs and guts are not like other mammals like their liver, stomach, and spleen gets all messed up. Another cool fact is that Sloths are very good swimmers, but they go even more slow on the ground than any wear else. Sloths can live to be 40 years old. Did you also know that the ancestor of the sloth the giant ground sloth witch lived before the last ice age was as big as an elephant. Did you know that a Sloth will live in a tree for its hole life if the food doesn’t change. THE END
